The Apache Webserver

Apache, the
#1 Web Server! http://httpd.apache.org Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April of 1996. The March 2002 Netcraft Web Server Survey found that 54% of the web sites on the Internet are using Apache, thus making it more widely used than all other web servers combined. The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain an open-source HTTP server for various modern desktop and server operating systems, such as UNIX and Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient and extensible server which provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards.

The Apache Feeather Apache Manual The Documentation Project is an effort to maintain and improve the quality of the documentation included with the Apache HTTP Server. Participation is open to anyone with a little time, a little knowledge of HTML, and hopefully a little knowledge about the Apache HTTP Server. No programming knowledge is required, so this is a great way for non-programmers to contribute to the success of Apache, and to have their work read by millions of Apache users.

Apache WeekApache Week is (as the name suggests:) a weekly publication about the Apache HTTPD and topics such as emerging technical standards, server management, security, open source software, website authoring, and more... It has run since 1996.

The foundation of any e-business application is the Web server. New IBM e-business software, such as the WebSphere family of products, is designed to operate with many popular Web servers. You do not need to change Web servers to take advantage of the latest IBM Web application technology.

Php Logo PHP (recursive acronym for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor) is an open-source server-side scripting language (freely downloadable from php.net and zend.com) for creating dynamic Web pages for e-commerce and other Web applications. A dynamic Web page is a page that interacts with the user, so that each user visiting the page sees customized information. Dynamic Web applications are prevalent in commercial (e-commerce) sites, where the content displayed is generated from information accessed in a database or other external source.

Chilisoft Logo Chili!soft, purchased in 1990 by Sun/Cobalt, brings ASP (Microsoft Active Server Pages) to the Apache Server. ASP is a Visual Basic sort of scripting language which can be used to create dynamic web pages in much the same manner as PHP does.
